Quote: Borders and Justice

If justice is defined as freedom from oppression, I see the longing in be-longing as a longing for justice. If be-longing is a Self/Other relational process and thus requires demarcation of boundaries to make sense of the world, then the question, for me, has little to do with erasing boundaries. As the findings [in this study] indicate, boundaries seem to be a fact of life. It seems impossible to think of a world without boundaries. Nor is this necessarily desirable in my view. For me, the question is how can we make the crossing of these boundaries easy and equitable? How can we make multiple layers and forms of be-longing readily available?
